How Do you Deal With Your Backlog? — 4 Comments

  1. My own comment functioning as a footnote:

Apparently it was Heinlein, though I may have picked this quote up from someone else paraphrasing it. I just ran across, in William Patterson’s biography of Heinlein (Learning Curve, page 428), Heinlein’s 1940’s era rules:

    1. You must write.
    2. You must finish what you start.
    3. You must refrain from rewriting except to editorial order.
    4. You must put it on the market.
    5. You must keep it on the market until sold.

I wouldn’t do #3, though I see where he’s heading with that. And as I’ve pointed out above, #5 could get oppressive if you’ve outgrown a work or have realized it’s bad.
